Okay (get out yer pen, dear WS - peace to you!), I'll take:

One sandwich - half watercress, half grilled cheese with avocado and onion (red onion, please)
One crumpet (LOTS of butter, please! And REAL butter, not that plastic oleo or "smart"/balanced stuff!)
Half a peach scone (oh, my...)
Small slice of chocolate cake (oh, my, my...)

Okay, I'm lyin': You can hold the sandwich and crumpet - I'll take a full slice of cake and a whole scone (you all MUST taste one of dear 'Mom's scones - I am telling you, to DIE for... and trust me, I almost do when I eat them! I have to take SO much insulin to compensate... and I STILL get "sick"... but I tell you, it's worth it to "live" for just those few seconds of each lovely, lovely bite!)

Shoot, given this order and all the carbs (sandwich bread, crumpet, scone, cake... and SUGAR)... I might as well just go and descend on into a coma right now and get it over with! LOLOLOL!

Fine (SA frowns and crosses arms): I'll just go with the watercress, cheese, avocado, and onion. Hold all the "bread" and sugar.

Peace (or 'another piece, please'? Sigh...)

SA, on her own... feeling her glucose level rise just from typing this and "cursing" the dratted diabetes, sugar, and flour...

If it's not too much to ask...

Avocado and sliced tomato on Dave's Killer Bread, with just a bit of mayo and a touch of salt. Lots of avocado, thank you.

GRAMMAVELTA SAID

Greetings, Flipper and Mrs. Flipper,
So glad you are on this post. You are among the people I missed on JWN since I hardly go there.
Hope you and your family are fine. Any more progress with your JW family?

Some wonderful things have happened to us this year.

Earlier this year our sons two daughters, Karey and Katey, contacted me through Facebook. Our son, who was a JW and shunned us for 16 years along with his family, died in 2007 of a heart attack. They told me they were not attending meetings anymore. One of them said she believed that the WT was still "the truth" and might go back, but that she would never shun us again!

In May we arranged to spend four days in Portland, OR with our daughter, grandson, his wife and two children, along with our granddaughter Karey, who flew in from Las Vegas. Our other granddaughter,Katey, who lives about 200 miles away in Washington, was supposed to come and spend the week with us also, but she got pneumonia and could not come, so on Saturday, we drove to her house which was a 4 hour drive away. She has two children that we had never met (the oldest is 15). We spent several hours with her, her son and daughter. Karey was dropped off at her mother's house to spend time with her (she lives in the same town as Katey). When her mother brought her back to Katey's house, our daughter Franci went out to say hello to her (Franci has never been disfellowshipped so she thought she would probably talk to her) When she went out to the car, our d-i-l said "I'm coming in". She talked to us, was very gracious and even took a picture with us. This surprised us. Our granddaughter called today and said her mother enjoyed seeing us.
It was indeed a blessed trip. I don't know what God is doing there, but it is promising! We arrived home tired but exuberant because we finally have our family back. God is to be praised for all His wonderful blessings! For a safe trip and provision to make the trip!

Another thrilling thing happened. When we were still JWs, I studied the "Truth" book with a lady more than 30 years ago. About a month before we went to Portland, we got a call from her daughter. She said her mother was dying, was in hospice and wanted Joe to come and baptize her. When we got there, we could see that it would be impossible to baptize her. She was hardly able to move and was on oxygen. She said that one lung was completely collapsed and she had only partial use of the other. They had diagnosed her with COPD and had given up any hope for her recovery. Since we could do nothing else, we anointed her with oil and prayed for her. Over the next month, we visited her, she showed signs of feeling a little better and then would relapse. We went on our trip, the 23rd of May and got back home on the 28th. We visited her the following Weds. We knocked on the door and instead of just a weak voice telling us to come in, as she usually was lying on the couch, she greeted us at the door, fully clothed instead of in her PJs. She told us she had gone out for breakfast with her husband that morning and she had gone to the beauty shop and had her hair done the day before. She was a different person!! Her husband, who had never been interested in God before, raised his hand up and said, "it had to have been God"! We visited her yesterday and Joe read part of Genesis to her and answered question. Her husband sat and listened. We are going to be visiting them on a regular basis and reading the Bible. We are so thrilled that God has put them back in our life.

It is so good to be able to share what God is doing in our life and what he is doing in others.

Love you guys,
Gramma Velta

JUSTMOM SAID

Gramma V
Praise Jah!!!

That is such a faith sttrengthening story about the sister who studied with you. I am so glad she has some quality of life at this time. She can praise and bring honor to God's name.

My gramma died 12 years ago and before she died she asked to be baptized in her pond at her home, which my cousin did. She was never part of any religion and knew our story and how our JW family had shunned us. My cousin with me on the phone did communion with her. I rejoiced at her faith.
She passed away two days later!!! I loved my gramma!!!

Jah is wonderful

GRAMMVELTA SAID

Just Mom,

I love your gramma's story. Faith is such a personal thing. My friend, Lynn, studied with me but never went to the meetings nor did she become a Witness. For this I am glad. She tried to go to different churches, but did not feel welcome. She is a passionate believer in God. I believe her illness was for her husband's sake. He never was interested in God or the Bible before, but now he is praying and asking questions at our Bible study. God knows how to get our attention.

Love you,
Gramma Velta

Great account, dear GrammaV (the greatest of love and peace to you, dear one!). May I ask what kind of oil did you use? Not that it should make a difference - I'm just curious.

Again, peace to you!

bends down on one knee

forgive me, Father
for i am a sinner

we all came here

this month
this week

i've been waiting for such ones as you
all of you

your timing
just cannot be coincidence

i am a firm believer

where open speech is fostered
free of hideous and hateful words
free of abusive behaviour
and free of closed-minded, narrow vision
(similar words i used in a written warning to my elders
JUST before they disfellowshipped me)

on the political spectrum
i would be your enemy

on many many issues
we would disagree very strongly

but
since you are on the same side as me
regarding this religious war
between us
and the Watchtower
never can i harm you
or lay a finger upon you

your minds and hearts
encourage
and build up

i've never returned to the other site to contribute
to the feeding frenzy of the wolves
and never will

but i have dropped in numerous times there
just as an observer, to track and examine
the behaviour of several of you
just to see of what mettel you are made
(No no, Auto Spell, DOWN boy ---
"mettel" is archaic for "spirit" or 'courage")

so for every brick you lay
i shall dispense what i can
of my own mortar

to help build
and heal
and unify

i am
grateful for your collective courage
your kindheartedness
and your very noble
and personal individual

in this place you've created
i shall do what i can to be
at your service
