GRAMMAVELTA SAID
Greetings, Flipper and Mrs. Flipper,
So glad you are on this post. You are among the people I missed on JWN since I hardly go there.
Hope you and your family are fine. Any more progress with your JW family?
Some wonderful things have happened to us this year.
Earlier this year our sons two daughters, Karey and Katey, contacted me through Facebook. Our son, who was a JW and shunned us for 16 years along with his family, died in 2007 of a heart attack. They told me they were not attending meetings anymore. One of them said she believed that the WT was still "the truth" and might go back, but that she would never shun us again!
In May we arranged to spend four days in Portland, OR with our daughter, grandson, his wife and two children, along with our granddaughter Karey, who flew in from Las Vegas. Our other granddaughter,Katey, who lives about 200 miles away in Washington, was supposed to come and spend the week with us also, but she got pneumonia and could not come, so on Saturday, we drove to her house which was a 4 hour drive away. She has two children that we had never met (the oldest is 15). We spent several hours with her, her son and daughter. Karey was dropped off at her mother's house to spend time with her (she lives in the same town as Katey). When her mother brought her back to Katey's house, our daughter Franci went out to say hello to her (Franci has never been disfellowshipped so she thought she would probably talk to her) When she went out to the car, our d-i-l said "I'm coming in". She talked to us, was very gracious and even took a picture with us. This surprised us. Our granddaughter called today and said her mother enjoyed seeing us.
It was indeed a blessed trip. I don't know what God is doing there, but it is promising! We arrived home tired but exuberant because we finally have our family back. God is to be praised for all His wonderful blessings! For a safe trip and provision to make the trip!
Another thrilling thing happened. When we were still JWs, I studied the "Truth" book with a lady more than 30 years ago. About a month before we went to Portland, we got a call from her daughter. She said her mother was dying, was in hospice and wanted Joe to come and baptize her. When we got there, we could see that it would be impossible to baptize her. She was hardly able to move and was on oxygen. She said that one lung was completely collapsed and she had only partial use of the other. They had diagnosed her with COPD and had given up any hope for her recovery. Since we could do nothing else, we anointed her with oil and prayed for her. Over the next month, we visited her, she showed signs of feeling a little better and then would relapse. We went on our trip, the 23rd of May and got back home on the 28th. We visited her the following Weds. We knocked on the door and instead of just a weak voice telling us to come in, as she usually was lying on the couch, she greeted us at the door, fully clothed instead of in her PJs. She told us she had gone out for breakfast with her husband that morning and she had gone to the beauty shop and had her hair done the day before. She was a different person!! Her husband, who had never been interested in God before, raised his hand up and said, "it had to have been God"! We visited her yesterday and Joe read part of Genesis to her and answered question. Her husband sat and listened. We are going to be visiting them on a regular basis and reading the Bible. We are so thrilled that God has put them back in our life.
It is so good to be able to share what God is doing in our life and what he is doing in others.
Love you guys,
Gramma Velta
