I know it's been a LONG time since I've been to a Kingdom Hall but I remember them warning us over idol worship, specifically individuals in the entertainment industry, and sports, sports were always right before the Super Bowl. Yes we had super bowl parties with the elders, if our meetings were in the afternoon we always went to the morning meeting( along with everyone else, LOLOL) most times not enough seats for everyone.
A witness friend of mine posted this story on FB yesterday, I found it humorous to see they made a statement about the passing of Prince. http://www.people.com/article/prince-de ... -statement
I guess they made an exception for Prince, Americas icon
Hopefully you all can open the link I copied here, I wasn't sure how to attach the link

Peace

Peace to you dear HTBO,

It was sad to hear of His death. Yikes! He was only 57! So young.
And his music and dress definitely didn't meet the standard of a witness as least as far as where I came from but heck, when folks like him, Michael Jackson, the Wiliams sisters and some others have and can donate the kind of $$ they have to offer the JW.org, they will make any exceptions for that.

But in reality, it was sad. And he was very talented. My wish is for all of his family and loved ones to be comforted during this time.

Thanks for the article, love your sister and fellow servant of Christ, Kim

I meant no disrespect to him or his family, yes his passing was very sad and I thought he was an extremely talented entertainer. My point was their hypocrisy, and yes I'm sure it is the $$$ but to make a statement to the press I was a little surprised about that.

Hypocrisy is their " second name" LOL! I didn't feel any disrespect on your part. I hear ya! But I am learning ( or maybe have learned) I'm not too surprised at anything they'll do or say any more.

Anywho, love and peace to you and hope all the family is well, your sister and fellow servant of Jaheshua, Kim

Well, apparently Mr. Nelson was cremated. Matthew 23:13, 15 No surprise. Jeremiah 5:31; 14:14

Michael Jackson was entombed. And... he was no longer a JW. Wonder if Katherine took any flack for that? Nahh... they wouldn't risk messin' with 'dem "donayshuns t' de wurl wyd werk."

Ah, well... fame, nice house, good looks... money... can't buy everything (the latter can buy ample supplies of good drugs, though, but you know what they say about "too much of a good thing."). So true in this world...

Peace to you all!

A slave of Christ,

Shel

Some on youtube have gotten the idea that because Prince was in good standing and was cremated, that is what all JW's do. I am afraid it WILL become more attractive to witnesses now too; actually to a lot of people.

I saw this morning on Facebook that Danny Hazard posted an article that Prince had been diagnosed with AIDS 6 months ago because since he got involved with the JW's he stopped taking treatment for it. He was taking a lot of painkillers, self medicating recently. They were indicating that the JW's might have encouraged him not to get treatment. Apparently he has been HIV positive since 1999 and 6 months ago it turned into AID's and that he died of influenza as a result of the disease??It all sounds like speculation to me, never heard he was HIV positive before.

https://hypelifemagazine.com/celebritynews/prince-died-of-aids-what-killed-singer-rumors

BUT if he was a regular Rand and File publisher with no money he would have been ostracised (sp) and not allowed to be a brother what with the way he dressed and his music was not theocratic either.

SUCH HYPOCTRITES, it makes me sick. But it is good that we can see the hypocricy.

It makes sense (although I have no idea, dear Zoe - peace to you, dear sister!) that he died from the flu (which he was reported to have, even prompting an emergency plane landing at one point?) which can be deadly for someone with AIDS.

People don't die from AIDS, though, but from "AIDS related complications," which can inlcude the inability to fight off a flu virus. This is because AIDS is not the disease that kills them, but the syndrome that allows diseases to kill folks. It is a shot immune system so that a person can't fight OFF disease. One acquires the SYNDROME (not disease) by the means of HIV (the "Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The virus (HIV) emaciates the body's disease fighting (aka immune) system. Hence, one ends up with "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome"... or AIDS.

If, then, a person has, say, the flu... or any other major illness that needs a STRONG immune system to overcome, they are VERY likely to die. Because their immune system is deficient. Nothing to fight WITH (hence, all/the strong drugs - they're designed to SUPPORT the immune system, which is lacking due to the HIV; stop taking them... an no "immunity" to fight the illness).

They said Prince kept hanging outside Walgreens, etc., waiting for drugs (rumor was he was waiting for Oxycontin; what, though, if it was HIV meds... and the pharmacy was out... or there was a wait period because he had recently filled a prescription? Both Oxycontin and HIV meds are controlled substances and issued undet very strict government protocols, so him having to wait makes sense).

Although I say my mom died of pancreatic cancer, she actually died of pneumonia, a complication resulting from the cancer (she'd had so many internal parts removed, she couldn't purge waste/fluids on her own and the fluid built up in her lungs. Hence, pneumonia... and drowning (for all intents and purposes). And so, the certificate says pancreatic cancer/pneumonia.

Ennywho, I can definitely see, based on what's been reported, how Prince might have had AIDS and died of the flu.

Honesty compels me to add, however, that even without AIDS the flu can be deadly (knew a 41-year-old man who died of the H1N1 a few years ago. Healthy outdoors-man who had horses, etc., and reportedly was never sick - went into hospital for flu and died 2 weeks later). So, Prince may have died from the flu and never had HIV/AIDS at all. The flu is NO JOKE.

S'why I, as a diabetic, get my flu shot every year now. Since I work closely around a lot of people and I'm just getting over my 2nd bout of pneumonia this year, gonna start that vaccine, too, this year.

Okay, enuff from me - LOLOL!

Peace to you all!

YSSFS of Christ,

Shel
