Me too for nearly 30 years off and on Zoe. What a waste, indeed. But then I know that however misguided I was, Jah and Christ saw my heart's intent and my love for them that motivated me for so long...

Your neighbourhood sounds really wonderful, I do hope things work out so that you can stay and enjoy it long term.

We went for a walk for the first time today in our new neighborhood, took the dog and walked down to the beach. I didn't walk, I rode on my 4 wheeled scooter. Such a lovely place this is, so many boats out there, cabin cruisers, jet skis, pontoons, float planes. Tne beach is small but all sandy bottom and shallow gradual walk out. All the houses and cottages are very nice here, the people are friendly, everyone waves at you.

Wish we were finished moving, so much stuff to do but we took today off.

Lovely that you're finding this new area so very friendly, Zoe! It sounds really lovely, and you'll be making new friends in no time! I'm very pleased for you! There's nothing like water, whether in the form of river, lake or sea, to lift the spirits!

Good morning : )

I am waiting for my tires to get put back on my van (I know it is mid-July, and I am just getting my winter tires rotated to the all season tires, lol) Am going to be driving up to Grande Prairie this week to visit my parents, and my Aunt/Uncle, and the boys' cousins. So that's a five hour drive, and I best switch the tires to make it or I won't have winter tires this winter at all ; )

Zoe, sounds very peaceful there!

Peace,
tammy

Good morning,

Have a wonderful week with your family Tammy.
Lots of family in the same area. ?

Zoe, glad you were able to actually finally get out and enjoy your surroundings.
I miss the lake, rivers and the sounds of the boats.

Happy Monday,

Had a great weekend. Two family members had birthdays and we were able to see a lot of babies in the family with everybody else. Was a good time.

Enjoy today
Love Justmom

Morning, not such a great day here, actually cool at 57 degrees. The weather is up and down like a yoyo.

I am hurting bad today, had to go and clean the kitchen at the house we are moving out of yesterday. Took 4 hours, my days of cleaning are over, ever try and do it when you can't stand up or walk, not easy. John filled in all the little holes in the walls from pictures and stuff and he helped me clean the fridge. Thankfully the oven is self cleaning so the only downside of that was it was 500 degrees and fumes in the kitchen while it cleaned itself.

This is how I feel right now and last night....I was crying it was so bad last night. Next time I am going to have to throw everything away or get help moving.

Our hot dry spell has broken. Still nice and warm, but thunderstorms around and looks like rain on the way.

We've had thunderstorms too Chariklo, but it's still very warm, very humid today too.

So sorry to hear about the extent of your pain Zoe. Hope it eases soon.

I have been offered a perfect job, a teaching post that is exactly suited to me, just ideal. However, it is a fair distance away from where we live, and will require about 2-3 hours motorway driving each day. So I am struggling to make the decision to accept it. I'm neither young nor 100% healthy so a full time job will be taxing enough, but I also hate Mway driving and my confidence is lowered since I haven't done so much of it in recent years. Today we did a dummy run and although I made it ok, hubby's input from the passenger seat wasn't pleasant lol.

I really don't know what to do for the best. I would love to have a go at the job, a great opportunity, it's what I've studied for, and jobs aren't ten a penny here at the moment, with over 100 applicants for each teaching job that comes up currently...but....any input is welcomed?

I'm sorry you're in pain too Zoe. You should take it completely easy until it passes, perhaps. Just watch shows and hang out on line.

LOL... well, that is kind of a given isn't it? From any husband regarding his wife's driving? I mean... its a given in my house at least ; ) Even though I'm the one who just doesn't look anymore when he's driving, else my foot is constantly on the imaginary brake and my hand is fisted on the door, lol.

So the drive is an hour to an hour and a half each way? Some teachers in this country end up taking that kind of commute, because of the shortage of positions too. I live in a big city, and a lot of people have anywhere between half an hour to an hour commute, just in the city. BUT it does add quite a bit to your day.

Now, if it was an hour commute each way, I might be tempted. Oddly enough, adding that extra half an hour each way seems to make a big difference, in my mind at least.

How is winter driving there?

In the end though, it depends on you. How long are your work day hours? How much time you want to have each day; etc, etc. Can it be temporary and can you transfer if a job closer to you comes up? Questions like that, you have to weigh.

You'll probably get used to the drive. I hated the idea of driving on the whitemud here (major route through Edmonton, but lots of accidents too), but I've gotten very used to it and enjoy the drive now. (however, it is not winter yet, lol... and I still half expect that I will take a transfer to the store closest to me because of the drive in the winter to the store I am at)

Peace,
tammy

Oh that is a big dilemma Loz! Lots of people commute that far but it would be exhausting after awhile and hopefully you don't have slippery winter weather. If the job is something you will love then I would think you should give it a try and go from there.

I love the way you say things Loz, very lovely proper English. I would love to hear you speak.

Ha ha ha, that's made me really giggle Zoe and My hubby too. You'd be disappointed if you heard me speaking! I have a deep voice for a woman, which embarrasses me, and on the telephone am often mistaken for a man. I don't speak best English either, I promise you, my original Welsh accent has all but disappeared and I have a lazy Northern twang now.

Because of so many years of academic writing, and perhaps because I've now become a teacher/lecturer in English Language, Literature & Drama, when I write, even texts or notes to friends I seem to get stuck in the same style. A bit pedantic really to be honest, and not sure it matches the "me" you'd meet! I am very "ditzy" in daily life, hopeless with decisions, tempted by 'nice' things I don't need, rather random in conversations as my mind bobs off on tangents too! Not at all as I come across in writing obviously, but thank you hunny, that was a lovely thing to say.

Thanks Tammy for your lovely input re the travelling, it's really given me more perspective and things to consider.

It's a full time job at a high school/academy, I'd be teaching for 22 hours, plus prep time and marking etc. as well as staff meetings etc., it's demanding, but that's a challenge I'd love. I can take it for 10 weeks and then decide on going permanent or not. It would be valuable experience under my belt, even for that long, but I would have to sacrifice a small financial health benefit that I couldn't get back if I take the post at all. I could always transfer to work closer to home IF a job came up, I suppose, yes.

Some friends are saying that my Mway driving confidence would grow as I did it regularly, which is really my major concern. Winters can be dark and wet and sometimes icy, but nothing like you have to deal with I don't think. Years ago I thought nothing of such a drive, and did a full time UNi diploma with 4 kids and a sick husband at home to care for on top! Of course I was younger then, and possibly braver. Hubby could nail that trip in about 50 minutes but I don't drive as fast lol.

My heart is telling me to just go for it, my flesh is shaking in its boots!

You would very soon get used to Motorway driving, Loz!

Motorway driving is so fast compared with our small roads, but not immune to traffic jams. When I first learned to drive, I was terrified of motorways, but in those days with children at uni etc a good distance away, and my mother in failing health on the other side of the country, very long drives of up to eight hours at a time the length and breadth of the country were inevitable, and became part of the pattern of my life.

My biggest bugbears were the complicated junctions, but I used to learn them by heart before I started, and then revise them in motorway service stations as I progressed! It worked. There are now several cities in England far away from me where I can navigate with confidence!

Negative input from the passenger seat would, I think, lead me to pull in at the next available point and suggest I continue on my own or with pleasant company!

As to your dilemma, both my parents were head teachers of schools some distance away, and journeys were long even in those days. You have to consider how tired you get. If you don't get too tired, then I'd say give it a go. I had a drive of over an hour each way in my last job before I retired. It was fine when I started out, but towards the end I was genuinely exhausted. Only you can judge!

Thanks Char. I too used to fly up and down the motorways here years ago. They're trickier and busier now as you say, with more and more lanes on and off and junctions which change, and constant roadworks, and my confidence is diminished.

I appreciate your tips and will think on what you've added, especially as to knowing the junctions, thank you. Hubby compensates for his outrageousness with his humour lol, and is a great help with navigation except when he argues with the SatNav lol.

Edited to add that I am ashamed that I sound like such a "wuss"!

You're not a wuss. You just have normal cold feet. That's natural!

Sleep on it! "Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleeve of care."
