The day started good but now I am so so upset, I picked up Malware on my brand new less than a week old conputer. That's why I was getting all those awful advertising everywhere. I am sick to my stomach about it. I have antivirus on it so should not have got it.
I know where I got it too, my daughter wanted to share photos with me of her trip to Florida and she doesn't know how to reduce picture size so she put them on a photosharibg site. I joined the site and I had a bad feeling about it. It's called dropbox, stay away from that one everyone it's nasty.

I don't see any advertising, Zoe, on any of my devices. I wonder if you've acquired some malware somewhere in your Internet travels?

John did a system restore and I am pretty sure it's fixed now. Whew! That was a big scare.
I have antivirus on my computer but it didn't catch this one.

Dropbox should be okay unless a shared file is the culprit.

Also, anti-virus is NOT anti-malware. You need two different software packages. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials, which keeps the viruses at bay, and some malware. However, I use Malware Antibytes for my anti-malware.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

With Malware Antibytes, I scan every so often (it's not real-time), and I especially scan when I think something is amiss. It generally catches whatever ails me. I've had to resort, on a time or two, to specific apps made by MacAfee, Symantec or some other security company to deal with a very specific malware.

Unless it's a real dinger, you should never have to restore to factory defaults. I've caught a few over the years, but haven't had to go down the system restore route, thankfully.

One tip I can offer: if you get any popup that LOOKS like a windows popup and says you have malware, do not fall for it unless it really is from your own anti-virus/anti-malware programs. No web site out there will legitimately "auto-detect" for you. This sort of thing is a scam and will royally screw up your computer. So, how do you know? It's hard to know, actually. It just comes with a little bit of experience and a gut feeling. If you wonder one way or another, simply close the box, then YOU initiate the scan with your own anti-virus or anti-malware programs. That way, if something is detected, you at least know it's legit because you started the scan instead of some web site saying you have a virus or malware.

Best

It was malware that fried my Windows laptop about three years ago. Anything new I have is now Mac.

I absolutely love all things Mac. It's so, so much better, a steep learning curve from Windows but worth it even just for the beautiful display. No comparison.

Bye bye Windows, apart from my old PC, all backed up on Mac.

Yes I agree with Mac being so much safer, I got the same stuff on my iPad and it didn't allow me to do Anythibg with installing anything.

I am having such a horrible day, OMG, I just bit into a piece of meat at supper and broke my whole front tooth off, I look like a hillbilly. I am horrified and no dentist available until Monday morning. I can't believe the bad luck I am having all at once.

Ouch, Zoe! I'm sorry about your tooth... AND... the rest of your tough day. Don't worry. You'll be able to deal with, fix and handle each problem that has come up. Dentists can fix all tooth problems, and the computer problems will work out.

But for now:

((((((((((((((((((((((((((Zoe))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Love to you,
tammy

Good morning everyone, it is another gorgeous day here. We are out having coffee and breakfast on our back deck. Loving the first 1st warm sunny weather since October.

I hope today is a better day for me here, yesterday was hazardous for me lol. I almost fried my computer but it seems to be fixed now, I gouged a hunk of skin from my thumb somehow on something and didn't notice it until blood was ball over everything, then last night I bit into a rib at supper and my front tooth broke off. 3 things grrrrrr, John gave me a gravol to calm me down and we went to bed and slept 12 hours.

Now I am in a better frame of mind. The good news is that I have partial dentures :::blush::: and so it didn't hurt to break my tooth (other than my pride)and they can replace the tooth for me as soon as they open tomorrow. Thank goodness I don't have to go anywhere where people see me until then.

Have a great day everyone.
