CHARIKLO SAID

Some of you will know me from other boards. To some, I may be a new name.

Today, I awoke with two decisions in my mind. One, and the main one, to go back to my own church, after a few years of Jehovah's Witness lindoctrination. Long story. The other brings me here.

I am feeling very, very relieved to be free of Jehovah's Witness thinking and very, very peacefully glad to be back in the arms of my church.

That's it really. So just a hello to all here!

VELVET SAID

Hi Chariko
Velvet here welcoming you.
I have not embraced a religion since being a JW, I was afraid to go into a church for years after leaving as I still had all the silly JW brainwashing in my head that all religion was Bad.
Then whole traveling in Europe touring historical sites I entered a couple of churches, one was a catholic church and another a beautiful Protestant church. Both churches were beautiful and this strange feeling of peace came over me as soon as I went into them. I had to sit down and I just wanted to sit and think about God, even if I did not know how to know him. I was o dr one with emotion each tine I went into a church from then on. I pushed the feeling aside but I still wonder why these places of worship no matter the denomination brought my focus around to a spiritual feeling.
I don't particularly believe any religion yet but I feel that if it helps a person reflect and focus on their spiritual needs then it's a good thing. Unlike the WT society, most Christian churches allow you to worship without a huge set of rules and guilt.

Ok after all that rambling Chariko, what I am trying to say to you is that the return to your Catholic roots is probably very healthy for you and nurturing. Enjoy it at least it's not a life sentence but free will yo worship when you want.

FINALCALL SAID

Hello Chariko

Welcome to the forum. I understand some of the freedoms a person can feel when leaving the WTBS.
I was a born in JW. After leaving I could not beleive how much free time I had. Thats just one of the freedoms.
Glad to have you here.

Peace

CHARIKLO SAID

Hello again, everyone!

Since I am here in the UK it's always nice to see that people have been thinking and sending messages while I've been asleep!

Velvet, I sympathise! I love my new iPad, bought when I was very laid up earlier in the summer after a fall that landeed me in hospital and meanty I was out of action for a while, but the auto-correct featuure is a mixed blessing. I love the way it can correct my many typos, but it absolutely has a mind of its own as to what it wants me to say at times!

Yes, I was a bit disappointed to find no edit feature. my heart sank! I though, my goodness, I'll have to be careful with my typing in this forum! But actually, it means you'll probably see some weird things from me!

Velvet, I cannot tell you the joy and delight I felt by the endn of yesterday. You know that I was struggling in another small forum, where I felt like a fish out of water. I had made no such decision on Wednesday, but yesterday morning, when I woke up, I knew what I was going to do. This is not the place for all those details, but there is a lot I'd like to say somewhere, some time.

Just to say, here, that it is not so much the physical building of the church, which may be old and beautiful or new and very ugly. You will know, but those who have not known me elsewhere will not, that I was not a born-in JW but one of those people who got drawn in from a doorstep conversation. Long story. but it gives me a perspective on the process. Very, very, very long story.

Anyway, I am convinced that for all their fine words, the Watchtower actually separates people from Jesus, by creating a false persona for him and a false understanding of who God is.

In a nutshell, I am very happy to have rid myself of it. How people manage who have been brought up in it amazes me. I have great admiration for the courage shown by those who extricate themselves from it.

finalcall, thank you for your kind words. Freedom of time is one good thing, yes! But much, much more important is freedom of thought and freedom of conscience. When I was at school we had a History textbook series called The Four Freedoms. That was one of them, and in fact, the USA was created, partly, in the fight for that very thing. Other things too, of course.

For me, freedom from the Watchtower's misinformation would be an important one. Justmom, hi! and to everyone else too!

JUSTMOM SAID

Thank you C and welcome again

On the subject of freedom. I too was raised a JW from age 6 til 36 yr old.
Amazing the mind control and fear. You are soo right.
But the "true freedom in Christ" for me comes from a personal relationship with him and our heavenly father Jah through holy spirit that guides my life NOW. (for the most part lol I don't listen enough )
That is something no religion/cult/group anywhere can give me without trying to control my faith "to some degree"

Thank you for coming on in. Welcome and if there is any questions I may be able to assist you with, let me know. Or just sharing. We all love that!
