I just saw the link to this from JWN. My user name on JWN is Indian Larry for anyone who has been over there.

I am a 3rd gen JW in the process of a loooooong fade. Pretty successful so far. I go to about two or three meetings a year and perhaps one day of the District assembly per year. That's about it.

I have still managed to stay friends with everyone in the organization (that I care to stay friends with). My wife is still fully blinded by the FDS but I love her with all my heart and so we are trying to work around those differences.

I have one child who is currently 14 and she just started early college this week. She is not baptized.

When I learned TTATT I almost lost all faith in God the Bible and everything. Someone I know through work recommended listening to a podcast by a Christian apologist called Ravi Zaccharius. He helped me to find my faith again and I will always be thankful for that. I did look at other religions (even non-Christian ones) some but to me Christianity is what feels right despite all the problems that it seems to have.

I also was helped tremendously by Ray Franz book In Search of Christian Freedom. I do go on JWN often although I don't post that much. I do believe that everyone should have the right to believe what they want to however I hope this forum has fewer atheists posting snarky comments to questions that people may sincerely have about the scriptures.

Anyway that's me.

Hi Larry. Welcome! Sounds like your daughter is on her way out.

I was under the name 'shamus' over there for reference.

And I'm the handsome one unlike "Heavenpuppy" ;P

Welcome to the forum! 3rd generation is quite the tradition. I would imagine that by the third generation one's family and friends are deeply entrenched.

I wish you well in your journey

Tec> It is early college/high school. It is a program that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation offers for families that have never had a college graduate. In other words it is custom created for witnesses. : )

After 4 years of HS she will have 2 full years college credit that is transferable to any other school or within the UNC system.

That is a GREAT resource! I took college prep and college courses in HS and that allowed me to devote more time in college to pursue the courses I wanted and not worry about prerequisites and a few obligatory undergrad courses I hope she is taking foriegn languages in high school as that will also allow her not to take foriegn languages in college which some colleges require in order to graduate

SOFT/GENTLE SAID

hi ?
nice to meet you.
your exit is very much like mine as I too am on friendly terms with jws in my congregation and with jw family members. Indeed when I go the meetings I quite enjoy seeing a few happy smiling faces even if they are only doing it for Jehovah. (trying hard to keep a positive frame of mind when I am with them so that eventually my whole family can realise ttatt)
I can also understand how restricted you are in your life because of having to keep the peace if you still have jw family in your life.
I hope you enjoy your visits here.

GRAMMAVELTA SAID

Hi ?,

So glad to have you here. I am a second-generation, out in 1983 along with my husband and 3 daughters. Our son chose to stay along with his family and we were shunned by them completely for the last 16 years. He died in 2007 and today we have our two granddaughters back in our life.

God is good.

Love and hugs,
Gramma Velta

@GrammaVelta - So sorry to hear about your son. That is my nightmare every day that my daughter will grow up and get baptized and end up shunning me.

@Soft+Gentle - I am really not mad at the average rank and file witness. Most of them have no idea about what is really going on in the organization. Just like any other religion (or group of people) there are some that are nice genuine persons, some that are idiots, some that are clueless and some that do know what is wrong but don't care.

The ones I reserve my displeasure for are any on the GB that actually know the truth (I can't say which ones do and which ones don't) and definitely anybody on the service desk or any Watchtower attorneys.

The reason I single out the service desk is that they know everything that is sour for sure. They answer thousands of heartfelt letters from people all over the world and most of the time don't give straight answers. The reason they don't answer straight is because they don't have the answer and they know it.

Also, anyone on the writing commitee I would have to look down on as well for how often they intentionally take quotes out of context, hide history and manipulate facts. They know what they are doing.

As for the GB, who knows? Maybe they believe it themselves, I don't know. They live in such a cloistered environment with so many people looking up to them that it is bound to affect them mentally after awhile.

Anyway, my parents are very elderly and it is probably too late to change their views. I try not to argue with them but I do talk to them about some things from time to time. I also go to the hall once in a while just to "throw them a bone" so to speak. If I never went my mom would probably think that when she passes she will never see me again. I would rather when that time comes for them that they at least have a small hope that they will see me again.
