I noticed on my Spanish word for the day email I get that the word was

Wave ( like the wave in the sea) = ola

It is pronounced the same as hola which is hello so are they kind of related?

I thought maybe Hola was a slang for ola In that you wave at a person but then it's a different wave isn't it, not a wave with your hand.
