A couple of them are actually written for children, but then, the best books, in true Hobbit fashion, are for all ages!

I read Dickens first at eight years old, but The Christmas Carol is still going strong! (No literary comparison intended!)

(Actually, Marley's Ghost...my copy of the book had the original illustrations...and the Third Spirit continued to give me nightmares for years and had me warily looking under the bed before I could get in!) :D

I thought it was here that someone recommended Barbara Kingsolver's books but I can't find that thread. I'm just reading The Poisonwood Bible and loving it.

Yes, LOVED it, as well, dear Loz (peace to you, dear sister!). I also read "Prodigal Summer." It was okay but not Poisonwood Bible level.

I am re-reading the Outlander series, one of the (VERY) few (set of) books I have read more than once. Can't get enough, though. I use Audible (so's I can "read" while I'm commuting, shopping, working, cooking, cleaning... pretty much doing anything - LOL!). Kinda gotta rush through the... mmmmmmmm... intimate... scenes (too much for MY tender ears - LOL!), but there is SO much other content that those are really just "in passing."

If you love a GOOD read, try those. There's even stuff in them that might make one go "Hmmmmm...", in light of what we've learned from the Master.

I'm going to have to check out the Outlander series and also the Poisonwood Bible, especially since I keep hearing great things about them.

I haven't read anything new that I would recommend in a while. Its been years since I read it, but I do like Dean Koontz' Frankenstein series (just the first two or three... I lost interest after that). He uses fiction to make a point about free will, and I like it when an author uses fiction to make a point about some truth or another. Like the Matrix movies.
