Science is getting really good about dating ancient events, plus we have astronomical texts to give us absolute dates for comparison. Case in point is the year of Shishak's invasion.
C14 samples from Rehov have allowed us to date Shishak's invasion to c. 871 BCE, based on modern C14 methods that can date an event to within less than 10 years for this period. We can then compare that to the secular timeline which uses astronomical events for absolute dating.
In this case, we use the advanced dating from the VAT4956 which dates year 37 of Nebuchadnezzar II to 511 BCE rather than 568 BCE. That means there is a 57-year reduction in the timeline. This affects the Assyrian Period as well, which forces us to use the 709 BCE eclipse to date the Assyrian period rather than the 763 BCE eclipse event some 54 years earlier. When we do that, then Shishak's invasion drops down 54 years from 925 BCE to 871 BCE. 871 BCE, of course, is the same date you get for that event using C14! So the C14 and the astronomy are now coordinated when you have the correct timeline!
It's amazing!
But what about the Bible? When does the Bible date Shishak's invasion? Well, we use 1947 to date the Exodus to 1386 BCE. That dates Solomon's 4th year to 906 BCE and his 39th year, the year of Shishak's invasion, to 871 BCE! So if anything confirms the astronomy in this case and the C14 to be correct, it's the Bible's own accurate timeline!
Amazing!
Wonderful!
So real!!
