Peace to you all!
I agree with dear Tams and Joe (peace to you, both!):

He let them get off onto the tangent
Okaaayyy?! One of the things I noticed very early on is that neither JWs with questions, most of those "fading", etc., nor most exJWs know how to talk with fully-indoctrinated JWs, and particularly elders and COs. One should know, by now, the pre-learned canned responses they're going to receive and be ready for those. It's really not that hard and especially if you remain calm and stick to the NWT and their own Watchtower propaganda. It's even easier if one let's the Master speak through one, making it HIS arguments of truth vs. one's own. In doing the latter, I got FAR more gnashing of the teeth than any of them trying to "reason" with me (because their "reasoning" was such malarkey - LOLOL!). Hence, the 14 "judicial" meetings I suffered through (although, early on, they were actually quite enjoyable, especially the looks of frustration and consternation when there was no WTBTS counter - LOLOL!). They just couldn't find anything "wrong" with what I shared with them because it was either in their Bible (which they eventually stopped opening - around meeting 7-8, I think) or in the WT.
Their initial issue was that what I was sharing from the Bible didn't always agree with WTBTS teachings. But at some point, they could see that it was the WT that didn't agree with what was in the Bible. Which led to their next issue: that I was "running ahead of the things written." When I asked, "Running ahead of the things written
where??" one "elder" (who prided himself on being a nice, calm, soft-spoken man), responded
very angrily, "
IN THE WATCHTOWER!!" That startled the CO as much as it startled me - in
my mind I was like, "Wait!
What?! Isn't the BIBLE the org's so-called 'road map'?!". As you may know from me sharing about this before, the CO corrected him ("Nooo, in the Bible...") but that didn't make a bit of difference with any of them, including the CO.
Yesterday, I had a 3-hour phone call with a JW who had become inactive before I left and was for quite some time but returned a couple of years ago. Out of loneliness, I think - she and her non-JW husband (she divorced the JW one almost 20 years ago) live near the Washington/BC border and all of her friends (inactive, active JWs, or DF'd (me - LOL!) and family were down here. It was easy for them to see her when she was here but she and her husband travelled a lot once they got married and so were out of the country a lot. A few years ago, they decreased their travel and I think she began to miss her friends and so needed the "fellowship." Thus, she went back.
In talking to her (we are both VERY respectful of each other's choice to be in or out), I could feel her holding back some of the parroting responses she would most probably give someone else. She knew better - she knows exactly what I would say in return AND that I would be sharing the TRUTH with her... because we've discussed it all before (when she was inactive she had a LOT of questions, so she knows). Sadly, she has allowed herself to redrink the vomit - not all of it; she can't fully believe all of it because she is SUCH a loving person and she can see where that harlot severely lacks in that area. But, when I listened to her try to... rationalize... their existence, I just sighed inside and said a prayer for her. I greatly miss her and regardless of the JW influence, it was a LOVELY conversation all-in-all.
I truly hope she gets (back) out versus remaining "captured" (
Revelation 13:30).
Hard to set free people who don't want to BE free, though.
The greatest of love and peace to you ALL, and to your dear, dear households!
Your servant, sister, and a slave of Christ,
Shel
