The study article for this week was in the Oct 15, 2014 WT. The article was You Will Become "a Kingdom of Priests". A little background: the past two weeks were all about the covenants. Well, this week dealt largely with the New Covenant. This article had multiple blatant LIES in it.

I'm calling these "lies" because after 100 years of "Bible research", you'd think this organization would actually know what the Bible says. Yet, it persists in these lies.

Lie #1: Instead of esteeming the arrival of the Messiah, the primary part of Abraham's offspring, the nation rejected him. Consequently, God rejected that nation.

Romans 11:1 (not cited in the article) states: I ask, then, God did not reject his people, did he? By no means! For I too am an Israelite, of the offspring of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.

Lie #2: He could also adopt certain devoted humans "as sons" by anointing them with holy spirit. (Read Romans 8:14-17)

Note the wording: "certain devoted humans". The article later says the number is 144,000. The passage cited is the one JWs always use to prove one is anointed or not. However, and I never noticed this before yesterday, this very same passage is one that DISPROVES their doctrine.

Romans 8:14: For all who are led by God’s spirit are indeed God’s sons.

The Greek word for "led" (Strong's 71) can also mean "guide". This could read, "For all who are guided by God's spirit are indeed God's sons." The organization has used phrases, such as "let God's spirit guide you" or "follow the leadings of the holy spirit" or "guided by God's spirit" (there was an entire article on that in 2011), and applies these to all JWs, not just the anointed. Thus, those who are God's sons, according to Romans 8:14 are not limited to 144,000, but include EVERYONE led by God's spirit.

Lie #3: Hence, the new covenant went into effect at Pentecost 33 C.E. when Jesus' loyal disciples were anointed with holy spirit.

This one is more tricky, because later in the article, it says, "the new covenant was validated by the shed blood of Jesus." The use of the word "validated" here is correct.

Hebrews 9:17 (not cited in the article) says: because a covenant is valid at death, since it is not in force as long as the human covenanter is living.

To say that the new covenant went into effect at Pentacost 33 C.E. is a lie. First, the Bible does not say that anywhere. Secondly, according to the above quoted verse in Hebrews, it was when Christ died that the covenant was validated, thus, went into effect. We know it went into effect because when Christ appeared in Galilee, he told his disciples, "All authority has been given me in heaven and on earth." (Matt 28:18) It is noteworthy that Hebrews was discussing the differences between "the former covenant" and "the new covenant".

LQ: Greetings and may you have Peace!

I'm not so sure that your Lie #1 is an actual lie (by the Society). They said that 'God rejected that nation.' Unless my understanding escapes me, it is my understanding that Jah rejected the "nation" of Israel as a "nation" when they rejected their King. However, rejection of a "nation" as a "nation" is not the same as a rejection of "people." While Israel was rejected "as a nation," individuals were more than welcome to come into the New Covenant and, thus, become part of a New Nation. 1 Kings 9:8-10 shows that the physical evidence of a "rejection" of Israel by God is the destruction of their most holy edifice--the Temple in Jerusalem. That is the physical evidence that "as a nation" they were rejected and the proof of that was the razing of their temple. And their temple hasn't existed for over 1900 years.

If I am mistaken, please someone correct me. Thank you.

We may be splitting hairs between rejecting the "nation" versus rejecting the "people" of that nation. I personally do not view it as God rejecting the nation, even though that's what I've been taught all my life.

It's certainly true that God rejected certain ones of his people. We see that throughout the scriptures. I suspect you're probably thinking of this passage, which is normally the "go to" passage for this (but was not cited in the article):
Jesus said to them: “Did you never read in the Scriptures, ‘The stone that the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone. This has come from Jehovah, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? This is why I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be taken from you and be given to a nation producing its fruits. - Matt 21:42,43

Note the wording, though: There isn't any mention of REJECTING them. Simply that the Kingdom would be TAKEN from them. What Paul wrote in Romans 11 100% corroborates this. That chapter is pivotal for understanding that Israel was NOT rejected as a nation, but that because THEY rejected Christ, the invitation to the Kingdom was taken AWAY from them and given to the Gentiles with the PURPOSE of inciting Israel to jealousy so that they would repent of their unfaithfulness. That chapter described the grafting of the branches onto the olive tree, if you recall. In there, Paul stated that if Israel returned to being faithful, they would be grafted back in.

Romans 11:1 (not cited in the article) states: I ask, then, God did not reject his people, did he? By no means! For I too am an Israelite, of the offspring of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.

The nation rejected Christ, yes. Therefore, they lost the promise held out to them as a nation: the promise to rule with Christ as Kings and Priests in His Kingdom. The Kingdom was taken from them and given to another people who will produce its fruit. (matt 21:43)

Except for the remnant (the 144 000) that Paul goes on to talk about in that same chapter that you quoted from, because they are reserved by God.

And of course except for any person of Israel who comes to Christ, who can still become part of the Great Crowd (from every tribe, culture, language, nation, etc), as Armand also said.

As for the rest of Israel (who do not instead enter as part of the Great Crowd from EVERY tribe/nation/etc), they have experienced a hardening until such a time as the full number of the Gentiles come in. Once that happens, and as Shelby shared as she heard from our Lord Jaheshua, they will cry out as a nation: Blessed is He who comes in the name of Jah. Jah will hear them, and Christ will come with His Kingdom.

If I am understanding correctly, these ones will enter as subjects of the Kingdom. Or whatever Christ judges to be right. That is not my concern; that is His domain.

But all Israel will be saved. Be it as part of the 144000, or as part of the Great Crowd, or as subjects of the Kingdom.

And so it is at this point (when they cry out: Blessed is He who comes in the name of Jah), that their hardening has come to an end. God does not reject them forever, due to the promise that He made to Abraham (and also because Christ told them that they will not see Him again UNTIL they say: Blessed is He who comes in the name of Jah. They DO say this... they MUST... because Christ DOES return, and EVERY eye will see Him)

(God also does not punish the child for the sin of the father. Although 'fathers' can pass on (teach) their sins to their 'sons', and so the consequences and effects may last for generations. Racism, for example; and lies and hate, etc)

Peace and love to you,
your sister and servant, and fellow slave of Christ,
tammy
