Could someone please clarify this matter for me?
While reading The WBT$ Builds a New Bible..FrankenBible.. thread, I noticed a post by Outlaw stating that the Society discourages JWs from having pets. Oh goodness, when did this begin?

This is old. Way back in 1956, this was stated:

"And so it is in the old world today: people are so devoted and dedicated to their personal interests, their businesses, their professions, their careers, or they are so taken up with their hobbies, their pets or their fancies, that they have no time to devote attention to the pure worship and service of the only living and true God, “whose name alone is JEHOVAH."

That's about the extent of discouraging, which comes along every 10-20 years or so.

Just when I think that the WTS could not possibly be more cultic, new evidence appears to prove me wrong.

Can't enjoy anything or anyone. It's not healthy to live life in curmudgeon mode 24/7/365 days a year.

Insecurity, yes, dear Marjorie (mornin' and peace to you!)... but more significant, evidence of a lack of holy spirit! Because JOY... is a FRUIT of that spirit! Yet, these will stop at nothing to rob the sheep of their joy, yes?

No pets. Indeed. My "fur children" would be appalled! LOLOL!

Yes...that makes sense.
You know, when abusive spouses really want to hurt the innocent spouse, they go after the pets/children for much the same reason.
